Social Work Interns Get Hands-On Experience
Bachelor and Masters level social work students from the Indiana University School of Social Work, Indiana Wesleyan University, and Martin University are joining Partners In Housing for 15 weeks of hands-on experience. Each semester, Students learn valuable lessons by working with residents and alongside experienced supportive services staff members, allowing Partners to expand the services links available to residents.
"Working with the interns is great because they bring new ideas with them and have a willingness to take on new projects." - Regina Lee, Resource Coordinator
This partnership is of great value for everyone involved – Partners In Housing receives additional supportive services staff six days a week and students earn valuable lessons by working with residents and alongside experienced supportive services staff members. Interns also allow Partners to expand the services links available to residents.
"Interns learn a lot from Partners because they are exposed to the full gmut of social and personal issues that our residents face. They learn by rolling up their sleeves and 'rubbing elbows' with the residents." - Carol Karst-Wasson, Community Life Coordinator
Extra services delivered by interns include linking to community services for legal issues, debt resolution, restoration of identity documents, signing up for school/classes/ GED and technical training, dental, optical, and cancer support.
