Depending on your interest level and the amount of time you can give, there are several different avenues for getting involved with the mission and work of Partners In Housing. The following is a listing of just a few of them. If you have an idea that’s not listed, let us know! If any of these ideas spark your interest, or you just want to find out more, please contact Chris Maples at 317-633-1861, x108 or by email at cmaples@pihdc.org.
The quickest and easiest way for you to get involved with Partners In Housing is to like us on Facebook and Twitter, and then ask your friends to like us, as well. It’s the best way to stay up-to-date with what’s going on with the organization and to interact with other like-minded folks. It also easily allows you to spread the word about Partners, if you’re so inclined.
The Auxiliary is a group of young professionals who give 2-3 hours per month of their time to work towards advancing the mission of Partners In Housing. Members are expected to attend one business meeting a month, held at The Rathskeller Biergarten, and to give another hour working on a project decided by the group that directly benefits our residents.
If you want to get a taste of the organization before jumping in, you might want to consider volunteering at one of our events. Whether it is working the registration table at the Partners Inside fundraiser in May or serving meals at a Thanksgiving dinner at one of our properties in November or anything in between, this is a good way to get to know a little more about Partners without feeling burdened with a regular commitment.
If you are interested in becoming a frequent volunteer for Partners and can come in with some degree of regularity, we can train you on entering donations in our data management system, how to head up outgoing mailings, organizing and maintaining Colonial Commons (the toiletries/baby items/ food/clothing pantry located in the basement of our Colonial Park property), or many of the other important tasks that need support.
Do you have any experience in fundraising or planning events? Are you an artist? Do you have video-editing skills? Are you a photographer? If you answer yes to any of these questions, or if you have another talent that you’re willing to share with a non-profit, you’re skills would be very valuable to us and we could really put them to use!
If you are interested in Partners and would like to share information about the organization with your friends, family, and co-workers, you can host an info session at your home or office. It can be as casual as having a staff member come and speak at a meeting or having your friends over for a cook-out and we can bring some information and talk to them in a relaxed environment. You supply the people – we’ll supply the information!
