Partners In Housing Awarded $1.3 Million by City of Indianapolis
The City of Indianapolis has announced that Partners In Housing will receive $1.3 million in federal funding granted to the City by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Partners received more than 25% of the total fund allocated to Indianapolis projects -- a total of $4.9 million in funding was approved for homeless initiatives.
This funding will provide rental assistance at The Orleans Apartments, purchased in December 2009. A total of 29 units of permanent supportive housing will be dedicated to housing homeless families. The funding, which provides rental assistance for all 29 units for 5 years, will allow Partners to expand our Supportive Services staff and bring on a new Resource Coordinator to work with residents of The Orleans, providing the crucial link to services that will help them permanently end their homelessness.
Partners now operates 122 units of permanent supportive housing under the City's Shelter Plus Care grants. Our newest project at The Orleans is the first to focus solely on homeless families.

PARTNERS PURCHASES NEW PROPERTY - THE ORLEANS APARTMENTS
Partners In Housing just keeps on growing!
On December 30, 2009, Partners In Housing officially added The Orleans Apartments to its portfolio – that brings our total portfolio to 11 properties and 587 units of affordable supportive housing. The Orleans Apartments are located on the far eastside of Indianapolis, just next door the Ransburg YMCA on Shortridge Road. The campus consists of 11 buildings and 121 individual units. Each unit at The Orleans has two bedrooms, making the perfect first step in achieving our goal to expand the scope of Partners services to more families and children.
In 2008, the Lilly Endowment contributed $1.6 million and the United Way of Central Indiana contributed $827,000 to support a Sustainable Service Model. This model allows Partners to focuson the reunification and wellness of families in need of affordable housing linked with supportive services. Our proximity to the YMCA has also motivated a natural partnership – our residents will greatly benefit from convenient access to the health, wellness, recreational, and community services available through the YMCA.
The Orleans Apartments boast a beautiful all-brick exterior and an expansive courtyard, perfect for hosting family-oriented events – an ideal space for July 4th picnic!
Partners plans moderate rehabilitation of the buildings’ interiors and exteriors. In addition to upgrade and addressing repair needs for residents, we hope to improve the reputation of The Orleans Apartments among our new neighbors on the far eastside. And, of course, Partners In Housing brings its dedicated property management and maintenance staff to The Orleans, which has already improved the daily operations of the facilities. Residents of The Orleans can expect the same quality property management and maintenance provided at all Partners locations.
SUPPORTIVE HOUSING FOR VETERANS - DAN'S STORY
When you ask Dan, “How are you?” his reply never varies:“It’s the greatest day of my life!”
If you ask him why, his reply is always the same:
“Because yesterday is gone and tomorrow isn’t here yet.”
Dan sees each day as a step toward recovery and focuses on that day being the best – “Today is the only day I have.”
Dan came to Partners In Housing in May of this year after spending more than 30 years living a lifestyle he describes as nomadic. In the 6 months that Dan has lived at Linwood Manor, he has entered a new phase of his life – what he calls a “total life recovery program” – made possible by the combination of housing and supportive services provided by Partners and the VA Per Diem Program.
Not only has Dan achieved sobriety and stability, he has also become a fixture at Linwood Manor and neighboring Colonial Park, where he can often be seen working on the grounds, improving the appearance of the properties, and keeping things in working order.

Indianapolis Power and Light Helps Partners Go Green!
Indianapolis Power and Light is helping Partners In Housing 'go green' to help our properties become environmentally friendly and to help our residents save money on utilities.
Dropping temperatures signal increasingly high heating costs for many residents. IPL, through their weatherization program, has conducted energy audits on two of Partners' properties - Guerin Place and Gladstone Apartments. Partners is in the process of installing low-flow showerheads and faucets in all 10 properties, a measure which will lead to greater efficiency and lower bills for all our residents.
Our efforts were recently featured on the WISH-TV Channel 8 news!

This year's Putting for Partners Miniature Golf Tournament was our most successful ever!
Thank you to our sponsors, Ball State Architecture students, and golfers for supporting this event and the mission of Partners In Housing. Your contributions and participation send a resounding vote of confidence that homelessness in Indianapolis must be addressed, and Partners' unique solution is the way to go.

Creating safe, affordable housing for special needs populations
A Resident of Colonial Park
40% of the homeless are families with children
Partners In Housing starts by creating rental units for low-income and special needs populations in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The housing we make available becomes a home for our residents, and we network with social service providers to give them tools with which to improve their lives and leave homelessness behind for good.
This unique housing model is called permanent supportive housing. By readapting or reusing old, run-down buildings, we can remove abandoned blights from a depressed neighborhood and offer apartments to those who can’t afford market rates.
Where Our Residents Come From
Partners is dedicated to playing a role in the implementation of the Blueprint to End Homelessness, which calls for 1,700 additional units of supportive housing over the next few years for Indianapolis. Successfully completing the goals of the Blueprint will require commitment from the entire community: political leaders, funding agencies, social service organizations, housing developers and the community at-large.
